S 160 Thonet chairs | Created to set up the large spaces
The Berlin design studio Delphin Design designed for the new series of chairs Thonet S 160, devoted to setting up of public spaces. They are easy to stack and store, with a consequent saving of space and cost, the chairs S160 engage with one another quickly and without tools. The design, classic and sober, together with the strength and comfort for guests, make these chairs particularly suited to the preparation of large spaces.
The series of S 160 chairs is meeting the short timing provided for the installation of public environments, for which usually the provision of a huge quantity of chairs must take place very rapidly. Thanks to their lightness, the chairs can assemble and disassemble quickly and safely. Their streamlined shape allows a provision within walking distance from each other and thus offers the possibility to optimize the space. The models are equipped with armrests that also allow you to fit the legs of the chairs together, without the need for tools. The chairs can be stacked in fact, in up to twenty-two elements per column and then placed on a trolley.
The S 160 is available in different versions: with or without arms, with or without padding. For padded versions, you can decrease the stacking height flattening the area of the seat. The chairs are available with seats of different widths, in order to satisfy various requirements imposed by the different environments. If you want to have alook at the chairs and you are based in the UK, you can have a look at Fusion Living, they do have some old models.
The thinnest model offers excellent mobility and is a highly practical solution and this model legs are done in chromed tubular steel, while the body is curved wood, both typical Thonet materials. From 2013 onwards, the body of the chair will be available in plastic. The chair with wooden shell or plastic also provides a contribution to the good acoustics of the space in which it is inserted, while having the same weigh with the clear plastic chairs.
“When we worked on the S 16 model 0, for us it was important to create a simple yet graceful design, which, with its managed aesthetic will be able to gain and maintain for the next 10 years its stable position on the market of chairs”, said the designer Thomas Wagner Dirk Loff.
